This economical main dish is much like salisbury steaks but without the mushrooms. It's perfect for busy weeknights when wanting a satisfying and delicious meal.
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 c. bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 t. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1/8 t. black pepper
1 T. vegetable oil
1 medium yellow, sliced
2 T. all-purpose flour
2 c. beef broth
1 t. vanilla
In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, onion and garlic powders, and black pepper. Form mixture into 7 evenly sized balls; flatten into steak patties.
Add vegetable oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and onion slices. Cook until patties are browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. When finished, transfer patties to a platter.
Sprinkle flour over the onions in the skillet and keeping any drippings left in the skillet. Use a spatula to scrape up any meat bits that have stuck to the skillet. Add in beef broth and vanilla; bring to a light simmer. Continue stirring until broth thickens, about 5 minutes.
Transfer beef patties back to the skillet, coating them with the gravy. Cover; simmer until the patties are fully cooked, about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles or rice.
3-4 servings.
