Description

Sloppy Joes are the go to meal for many busy families. Make it a bit more special by adding a not so secret ingredient, Dr. Pepper. It adds a subtle sweet tang that is delicious.

Ingredients

  • 2 T. butter
  • 1 small onion, small diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper small diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 3/4 c. Dr. Pepper
  • 2 T. ketchup
  • 1 T. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 t. kosher salt
  • 1/4 t. black pepper
  • hamburger buns or favorite buns, for serving

Steps

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter; add the onion and bell pepper; cook until veggies are softened, and start to brown slightly, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic; cook until fragrant, 30 seconds.
  2. Add the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles until no pink is left, 8-10 minutes. Discard excess fat.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, Dr. Pepper, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; stir.
