Sloppy Joes are the go to meal for many busy families. Make it a bit more special by adding a not so secret ingredient, Dr. Pepper. It adds a subtle sweet tang that is delicious.
Ingredients
- 2 T. butter
- 1 small onion, small diced
- 1 small green bell pepper small diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 8 oz. tomato sauce
- 3/4 c. Dr. Pepper
- 2 T. ketchup
- 1 T. apple cider vinegar
- 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 t. kosher salt
- 1/4 t. black pepper
- hamburger buns or favorite buns, for serving
Steps
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter; add the onion and bell pepper; cook until veggies are softened, and start to brown slightly, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic; cook until fragrant, 30 seconds.
- Add the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles until no pink is left, 8-10 minutes. Discard excess fat.
- Add the tomato sauce, Dr. Pepper, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; stir.
