Can't decide whether to make homemade sloppy joes or homemade Big Macs? Well, make a version of both of them in one sandwich.
Sloppy Joes:
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 c. ketchup
2 T. yellow mustard
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
2 T. apple cider vinegar
2 T. brown sugar
salt and pepper, to taste
4 large hamburger buns, toasted
1 c. shredded lettuce
1/2 c. pickles, sliced
1/2 c. Cheddar cheese, shredded
Special Sauce:
1/2 c. mayonnaise
2 T. French dressing
4 t. sweet pickle relish
1 T. finely minced white onion
1 t. white vinegar
1 t. sugar
1/8 t. salt
Sloppy Joes:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are soft. Discard excess fat.
Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar into the beef mixture; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly.
While the beef simmers, prepare the special sauce.
Special Sauce:
Mix the mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, minced onion, white vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl until well combined.
Toast the hamburger buns in a dry skillet.
Assembly:
Spread a generous amount of sauce on the bottom buns; top with the beef mixture, shredded lettuce, pickles, and Cheddar cheese.
Place the top buns on the beef, cheese, lettuce and pickles.
Serve immediately.
