These delicious sandwiches will feed a crowd for fun get togethers, game day food, or holiday gatherings. Use disposable baking dishes for easy clean up and for the ease of transporting them. Serve with chips, fries, dill pickles, etc.
1 stick unsalted butter
1T. dry mustard
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
2 T. brown sugar
1T. poppy seeds
1 package small sweet Hawaiian buns
1 lb. sliced ham (roast beef, chicken or turkey also work well)
1 lb. sliced Swiss cheese (or favorite cheese)
In a medium saucepan, bring butter, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and poppy seeds to a boil in a saucepan; lower heat; let simmer for a few minutes; set aside.
Slice buns in half across horizontally using a serated knife, without breaking them apart.
Place buns, still attached to each other, in a baking dish that they will fit snugly in; assemble sandwiches by adding desired amounts of ham and cheese ; pour warm sauce evenly across the tops, using a spatula to make sure they are all coated.
Cover with foil; marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Bake covered for 10 minutes covered and uncovered 10 minutes.
Makes 12 sandwiches.
