Use your crock pot to make this pleasing Mexican inspired meal. It's a cross between hamburgers, tacos and Sloppy Joe's. It can also be made in a large skillet just like you prepare Sloppy Joe's.
2 lb. ground beef or turkey
¾ c. water
28 oz. can tomato puree
2-1 oz. packages taco seasoning
8-10 hamburger buns
Optional toppings:
cheese slices
tomato slices
avocado slices
onion slices
lettuce
Line the inside of a 5-6 quart crock pot with a crock pot liner for easy clean up. Lightly spray the inside of the liner with non-stick cooking spray.
Brown the ground meat in a skillet, breaking up large clumps; discard any grease. Place cooked meat in the prepared crock pot. Add water, tomato puree and taco seasoning; carefully stir.
Cover; cook on Low 4 hours and 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve on buns that have been toasted on one side and with toppings of your choice.
Serves 8-10.
